Print Budii

It’s not everyday you get to build a fully automated app controlled photo printer. Originally designed to be placed in arcades and similar situations, Print Budii is a photo kiosk that users can use to print photos from their phone.

The process is simple, you open up the app and select your nearest printer (it will automatically do this for you) and then select the photos you want to print, after applying any filters you may want you then pay for the prints using a Credit Card or Apple Pay and then take the code the app gives you to the printer to collect the prints.

Since this original version the printer has now been adapted to use for free prints at events such as weddings, parties and for promotional use at conferences (overlaying logos as appropriate). Other uses in public facilities such as libraries is now being tested.

The app is available on iOS and Android and is currently being ported to a Progressive Web App so we can do individually themed / white label versions of the app that can be opened with a QR code.

I worked with Sahara Technology to bring this project to life, I designed and wrote the mobile app, progressive web app, server software, printer software and chose the computer components of the printer hardware.

We had a lot of fun building this project and it really took off.

The hardware is also being currently put to other industrial uses as well that we didn’t originally foresee and it’s very exciting.
